PLACES: Naked Salford, Naked Manchester

EVERYDAY PEOPLE - SPENCER TUNICK

As part of the 10th anniversary of The Lowry Art & Entertainment centre, Spencer Tunick was commissioned to create a series of unique images over two cities: Manchester and Salford. This would be the first time that the New York based installation artist, who showcases the body in beautiful form, would be responding directly to another artist work when arranging his pieces. I visited the exhibition and found the pieces stunning and also really enjoyed watching other peoples reaction to the pictures and the short film that is played.

Tunick has drawn inspiration from the industrial heritage of Manchester and Salford and has responded directly to the work of L S Lowry, which is evident in many of the pieces on show at the exhibition. over 1000 volunteers helped create these fantastic portrayals of a city all to familiar yet coated in a naked mask.
